School Philosophy:

ALA's Development Ladder
The American Legacy Academy was founded to provide parents and children a setting where the study of all knowledge could be enjoyed from a spiritual standpoint. By searching out of the best books, including the standard works of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints* and the words of the prophets, we look for evidence as to why all learning is important to Heavenly Father. Our main focus is to consecrate our hearts and minds to God as we prepare to serve Him. The curriculum is designed to show His hand in all things, and in the lives of all individuals throughout history; helping the students recognize that He is mindful of them too and has an unique purpose for them here on Earth, thus the significance of their decision to do their best in all they do. At American Legacy Academy we endeavor to research, reason, relate, and record every subject from a position of absolute truth thereby enabling the students to discern right thinking and action from which to exercise self-government in serving others. The seven principles of education at American Legacy Academy are:
  1. The principle of Individuality. Each child understands first and foremost that he or she is a child of God, endowed with certain gifts and individuality; and that he or she has been sent to Earth with a specific mission to fulfill.

  2. The principle of Christian Self-Government. As Heavenly Father's children with gifts and talents it is our duty to learn to be self-governed. Learning can be fun but it also requires discipline, focused listening, thoughtful participation, responsibility, diligence, and respect for others. Self-government means striving for our highest ideals. This principle has its foundation in the home, and our school will continue to build upon it enabling students to grow in self-governance through encouragement and boundaries until they are able to choose to be governed internally by the Spirit.

  3. The principle of Divine Potential. As a child of God each has inherited the divine potential to become as He is. By developing our divine nature and exercising faith, repentance, obedience, good works, brotherly love, steadfastness, integrity, and purity we may, in the eternities, become like our Heavenly Father.

  4. The principle of Conscience. Heavenly Father has given us a conscience to help us learn to make the right choices. As students learn to govern their lives by using agency to do right, they experience the freedom that comes from having a clear conscience. They understand that the greatest liberty comes when we value convictions and conscience above all else, just as our Founding Fathers did.

  5. The principle of Stewardship. Exercising righteous stewardship over all things shows our Heavenly Father a grateful and faithful heart. We must always do our best to properly utilize time, gifts, talents, and all the opportunities that we receive.

  6. The principle of Service. Happiness comes from achievement and joy comes from gaining skills that are used in the service of others.

  7. The principle of Preparation. We are preparing now to become future leaders in our home, church, community, and nation, that we may preserve our religion and governing Constitution for ourselves, our families, our posterity, and the world.
